Growing Minds Therapy
Private practice of Tierney McMahon, PhD.
I am a clinical psychologist offering evidence-based cognitive behavioral therapies for improving emotional wellbeing in pre-teens, teens, and adults. I work with individuals and families to help them get “unstuck” from unhelpful thoughts and behavioral patterns related to anxiety, OCD, and depression so that they can live a life filled with meaning and purpose.
What I can help you with:
I work with adolescents (ages 10 years and older) who are struggling with mental health and behavioral concerns related to anxiety, OCD, and depression. My favorite part of my work is helping individuals learn that they can overcome their fears, effectively cope with stress, and accomplish personally meaningful goals.
Mood, anxiety, and OCD concerns in adolescents
Life has challenging moments for everyone and sometimes we need help overcoming the emotional toll that stress, and sometimes trauma, can take on our mental health and wellbeing. I help individuals cope with grief, stress, life transitions, and traumatic experiences, while finding ways to live a fulfilling life.
Overcoming the effects of stress and trauma across the lifespan
Parents of youth with mental health concerns related to anxiety or depression often want to know what they can do to help their child overcome emotional challenges. I work with parents, both individually and alongside their child, to offer evidence-based strategies for helping their child get well.

How we’ll work on it:
I am experienced with a variety of evidence-based cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) protocols in adolescents and adults, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Exposure/Response Prevention (E/RP), and Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE). I flexibly tailor these therapies to address your unique concerns. When working with youth, I routinely provide parents with research-backed strategies for supporting their child in the therapeutic process.
Evidence-Based CBT
Prior to beginning therapy, I use the assessment process to get a holistic picture of your concerns and the contexts they come up in. I want to get to know you as an individual, what’s important to you, and what is motivating you to come to therapy. We will work together to choose the best treatment approach for you and your life by incorporating relevant information from your social and cultural background, your strengths and values, and your physical health and wellbeing.

Goal-Focused Approach
My goal is to help you get better, and we will work together by first identifying what “better” means to you and how we will know you are getting there. Therapy goals can range from “reduce anxiety symptoms” to “be more present in my relationships” or “go to school for a week straight”. By taking a goal-focused approach to therapy and monitoring progress toward that goal, we will make sure that you stay on track to addressing the concerns that motivated you to seek therapy.
