Tierney McMahon, PhD
Licensed Clinical Psychologist
I started Growing Minds Therapy so that I could do what I love most: help individuals and families develop healthy strategies for managing emotional distress and reducing disruptive emotion-driven behaviors. I received my PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University at Buffalo and completed my APA-accredited predoctoral internship at the Charleston Consortium Psychology Internship Program. I then completed two separate postdoctoral fellowships: one at the Medical University of South Carolina focused on sleep and anxiety disorder treatments for adolescents and adults, and one at Northwestern University/Lurie Children’s Hospital focused on ways to improve the delivery of mindfulness-based therapies for youth with mood and anxiety disorders.
While I specialize in the treatment of depression, anxiety, and OCD, I have worked with diverse groups of individuals and with a range of mental health concerns, including post traumatic stress disorder, insomnia, ADHD, and substance use disorders. This is why my therapy practice emphasizes the use of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, a “transdiagnostic” form of CBT that uses mindfulness to help you let go of unhelpful or unwanted thoughts and feelings and, instead, focus on doing what matters to you. You can read more about the therapies that I focus on in my practice below. If you think we might be a good fit or want to learn more, I welcome you to schedule a free 15 minute phone consultation with me by clicking the link below.
